Reflections on the Recent “Back To Basics” Seminar

As salaamu ‘alaykum

Alhamdulillah, it was a great experience to attend the recent “Back to Basics” Seminar hosted by Masjid Rahmah in Parsippany, NJ. We got a lot of benefit, especially from the tele-links of the mashaayikh. On Saturday, there were three tele-links back to back which was really amazing mashaAllah.

SubhanAllah, its amazing how much love the mashaayikh have to spread the word of Allah. Even though we know how busy they are with many other things, they take out the time to teach their brothers in the West something from the religion. This shows how dedicated they are to make the words of Allah and tawheed uppermost amongst the people.

It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is AllMighty, OftForgiving. (Fatir 35:28)

I hope that more people would benefit from the words of the mashaayikh when they are speaking. Its sad to see the amount of brothers who waste their time in the suk (marketplace) talking about nothing while the mashaayikh are talking about that which will give them benefit. May Allah safeguard all our present scholars and have mercy on all those who have passed away.

We also got to see preliminary designs of the new building that Masjid Rahmah is planning to build. We ask Allah to make it easy for them and for all the masaajids around the world which are built upon the sound methodology of the pious predecessors.

The former rapper, Mutah Beale also spoke about his past life and how he was involved in the music industry. Even though, money was all around him during that stage of his life, he never felt true happiness. Alhamdulillah, Allah guided him to Islaam and to the correct understanding of the religion. Now, he is trying his best to get the message across to the youth to stay away from the temptations of music and everything that it involves. May Allah bless him for his efforts.

We also got to know that there are many Muslims in the prisons of NY itself. And nowadays, there are more and more young Muslims turning up in prison. Many of them don’t know anything about Islaam. If you are someone who lives close to a prison, I highly encourage you to go and visit your Muslim brothers and your sisters if you are a sister. Many of them don’t have anyone to visit them which makes them look towards crime and other stuff while at the prison. For the person who is able to teach them a little about Islaam, it will really help them in their practice of the Deen. Remember that even though they are in prison because of a crime that they have committed, they are still our brothers and sisters in Islaam and it is a duty upon us to help our brothers with that which we are capable of inshaAllah ta’ala.

We ask Allah to make us from those whom He bestows with beneficial knowledge and we ask Him to keep us away from that which does not benefit us.

Alhamdulillah, it seems the event was beneficial – may the ‘ilm that was presented continue to penetrate the hearts of all those in attendance, long after the events end.

Regarding those who take the time out of their busy schedule to teach those of us in the West, I am reminded of Dr. Saleh As-Saleh. May Allah preserve him for the long hours he devotes to disseminating ‘ilm in the Understand Islam Room on PalTalk] SubhaanAllah this fact always amazed me (along with the consistency – daily, mashaa’Allah). May Allah ta’ala preserve him. Aameen.

On another note, mashaa’Allah the brother, Mutah Beale, is doing excellent things, the power of his story is striking. MashaAllah, truly Allaah guides whom He wills. What’s more, walhamdulillah, I heard just yesterday of a brother who reverted to Islaam, solely upon reading an interview of his, relaying his own reversion to Islaam.

Na’am, may Allah bless the efforts of Dr. Saleh as-Saleh. I have not taken part in any of his online classes but I have listened to his lectures that he has on his website and they are very beneficial mashaAllah.

During one of the tele-links, Shaykh Sulaymaan ar-Ruhaylee gave a detailed answer to the conditions of traveling and when you are considered a traveler. I will post that later on inshaAllah ta’ala for the benefit of everyone. Abu Muhammad al-Maghribee told him that there are many questions relating to traveling so the shaykh gave a detailed answer, may Allah reward him for that.

During the summer, if you are looking to memorize something in addition to the Qur’aan maybe, I would suggest these questions and answers.

They are very concise, easy and very very beneficial when giving da’wah. Barak Allahu feekum.

    A’Salam alai kum,

The seminar was beautiful. Held at a beautiful place and a lot of people came out to attend it. Ma’sha’Allah the talk Shaykh Ruhaylee gave on unity and not causing fitnah was very beneficial. I hope more people attend next year as I’m already telling brothers to come to any conference that is available. There is one upcoming at Masjid Ahlul Qur’an wa Sunnah in Queens NY on the 15th of July. Insha’Allah I hope it will be as beneficial as they will have a telelink with Shaykh Abdullah al Ghudayan so I’m looking forward to it.

Wa ‘alaykum salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Barak Allahu feek akhee. Is there a link for the flyer for this seminar in Queens on 15th July?

  5. July 10, 2007 at 1:31 pm

I’m not sure if the flyer is online but Masjid Ahlul Qur’an wa Sunnah did print some. The Masjid is on 109ave on Van Wyck Blvd in South Ozone Park, Queens. Just over by the Jamaica area. It starts at Noon this Sunday and that will be the first telelink. I’m not sure if the first telelink will be with Muhammad al Imam or Abdullah Ghudayan Rahimahullah. If I get more information i’ll post it soon.
