The First Creation

The First Creation

By Imaam al-muhaddith Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albanee(rahimahu llaah)

The Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) said:

“ The first thing that Allaah (subhanahu wat’ala) created was the pen ; and He commanded it to write every single thing that is to happen.” 1

(Imaam Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albanee (rahimahullaah) said in his book : “ Silsilah as-Saheeha ” under this hadeeth) :

“In this hadeeth is a refutation of what the people convey , to the extent that it has become an established belief in the hearts of most of them, and that is : That the “light” of Muhammad was the first thing created by Allaah The Blessed and Exalted. And this is a false belief that has no base in its correctness.

And also in this hadeeth, is a refutation to those who say that the ‘Arsh (The Throne) is the first creation.

And there is no text from the prophet sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam regarding that , rather it is only scholarly opinions (ijtihaad) from those who say this ; like Ibn Taymiyyah and others.

Thus taking this hadeeth is foremost , as it is a (proved) text in this issue.

And as we know ; there is no ijtihaad (scholarly opinion) when there is a (authentic) reported text.

And interpreting this (hadeeth text) and saying , that the Pen was created after the Throne ; is invalid.

This kind of interpretation would only be valid if there was an incisive narration , that says the ‘Arsh (Throne) was the first of all creation –inclusive of this is The Pen (al-Qalam) – But as there is no text similar to this (saying the Throne was first) , thus this interpretation is not permissible.

And also (the hadeeth) : in it a is the refutation of those who say the ‘happenings’ / ‘incidents’ have no beginning ; such that there is no creation except that it had a precedence , something created before it (and so on) ; like this (it continues) , until there is not an end ! Such that it is not possible to say : “this is the first creation”
Hence this hadeeth invalidates this saying , and points out that the Pen is the first creation. And there was’nt anything created before it .

The Evil of Craving for Wealth and Status

Source: THE EVIL OF CRAVING AFTER WEALTH AND STATUS

Author: al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee

Pgs. 9 – 10

All praise for Allaah, Lord of all the worlds. May Allaah send praises and complete peace until the Day of Recompense upon him, his family and followers and upon all of his Companions.

The Shaikh, the Imaam, the distinguished scholar, Shaikh-ul-Islaam, remainder of the noble Salaf, Zaynuddeen Abul-Faraj ‘Abdur-Rahmaan, son of the Shaikh and the Imaam Shihaabuddeen Ahmad, son of the Shaikh and the Imaam – Ibn Rajab al-Baghdaadee, al-Hanbalee, rahimahullahu ta’ala, said:

Imaam Ahmad, an-Nasaa’ee, at-Tirmidhee and Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh report the hadeeth of Ka’b ibn Maalik al-Ansaaree, radiyallaahu ‘anhu, from the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam that he said: “Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep are not more harmful than a persons craving after wealth and status is to his Deen (Religion).” At-Tirmidhee said, “It is hasah saheeh.”

It is also reported from the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Umar, Ibn ‘Abbaas, Aboo Hurairah, Usaamah ibn Zayd, Jaabir, Aboo Sa’eed al-Khudree and ‘Aasim ibn ‘Adiyy al-Ansaaree, radiyallahu ‘anhum ‘ajma’een.

We have mentioned them all and spoken about them in the book Sharhut-Tirmidhee (Explanation of Tirmidhee).

The wording of the hadeeth of Jaabir, radiyallaahu ‘anhu, is: “Two ravenous wolves which spend the night amongst sheep whose shepherd is absent, will not cause more havoc for the people than will love of status and wealth to a Believer’s Deen.”

In the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas, radiyallaahu ‘anhu, there occurs, “love of wealth” in place of “craving…”

This is a very great similitude given to us by the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam to show how the Deen of the Muslims is corrupted by craving after wealth and worldly status, and that the damage caused to the Deen by it will not be less than the damage caused by two hungry and ravenous wolves which spend the night amongst sheep whose shepherd is absent – so that they feast on them and massacre them.

As is obvious none but a small number of these sheep would escape from the havoc caused by these hungry wolves – and that the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam informed us that a person’s craving after wealth and status does not cause less harm than these two hungry wolves amongst the sheep. Rather either it will be the same or worse. So this shows that hardly any of a Muslim’s Deen remains secure if he craves after wealth and status in this world – just as hardly any of the sheep will be saved from the hungry wolves. So this great similitude contains a severe warning against the evil of craving after wealth and status in the world.

——–

So pay heed to this great example and spend your time O Muslim, may Allah save you from trials and tribulations, in learning the Religion of Allah the Most High. For verily, knowledge is the most noble of things to be sought in this life.

Begin by Learning the Fundamentals of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah

Begin by Learning the Fundamentals of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah

Know, may Allaah grant you the ability to obey Him, that I do not mean by “Fundamentals”, the three categories of Tawheed only. Rather I intended that first, and secondly I meant by it, the other fundamentals, which Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah have agreed on and due to which they have separated themselves from the people of innovation and sects, such as the (the principles of): Showing al-Walaa wal-Baraa (Loyalty and Disavowment), commanding the good and forbidding the evil, the (correct) stance towards the Sahaabah (Companions) – respecting and defending them, the position with respect to the Leaders, the stance with regard to the transgressors and sinners, and the position towards the People of Innovation – speaking against them and dealing with them.  This goes as well for all the other fundamentals that Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah have agreed upon and which they have put in their books on Creed, in order to clarify the truth and separate themselves from the people of deviation, calamities, vain desires and division – even though the source for some of these principles may be related to actions and not Creed. [1]

So if you have gotten a firm grasp in understanding these points and fundamentals, then, by the Will of Allaah, you will be fortified against many of the misconceptions that are gushing throughout the Islaamic world.

But when many of those who have repented become negligent in this matter and do not initiate their repentance by learning the fundamentals and methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah, they become confused and lost with just the slightest of misconceptions! We ask Allaah to save and protect us!

Whoever reflects on the condition of these people, will find many instances and examples for this confusion and shakiness, amongst which are:

The First Example:

You find the person who has turned to the Way of the Salaf, in the beginning, strict and determined to keep far away from the people of innovation and sects. This lasts for some time, but then he is presented a misconception from one who clothes himself in the garb of Salafiyyah, which in brief is:

“Staying away from the people of innovation and not sitting or mixing with them is not correct.”

“This causes many benefits to be missed out on.”

“There is no one after Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) that is infallible. Even the Sahaabah made mistakes…”

And he does not hear these doubt-raising arguments except that you see his heart become diseased. And you see him drinking (from) this misconception faster than he drinks water. And lo and behold, thereafter, he begins to mix and associate with the people of innovation, becoming soft and easy-going with the principles of Salafiyyah, while doing this in the name of Salafiyyah!

This confusion only came about due to his failure to engage in learning the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, according to the understanding of the Salaf (Predecessors) of this ummah. And it was due to his failure to study the Fundamentals of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah. This is since if he were to have devoted time to seeking of knowledge, he would have known that this misconception is false and at variance with the position of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah towards the people of desires and innovation, in the past and present.

And he would have known that the statement of this false-claimer (to Salafiyyah): “There is no one after Allaah’s Messenger that is infallible” and “everyone make mistakes” are words of truth, but by which falsehood is intended. This is because when anyone amongst Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah – from the Sahaabah and those who followed after them in goodness – made an error, their error did not come as a result of following desires, or failing to follow the narrations or distorting the texts or chasing after what is unclear and ambiguous from these texts, as is the case with the people of innovation. Rather, their error would come due to one of them not being aware of the proof for it or his knowing about it yet not considering it to be authentic, or any of the other reasons for which they have an excuse.

The following saying of Allaah’s Messenger (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was revealed concerning them and concerning those who follow them in goodness: “When the judge issues a ruling, making Ijtihaad in the matter and is correct, he gets two rewards. And if he gives a ruling, making Ijtihaad in the matter, and is mistaken, he gets (only) one reward.” [2]

This is contrary to the People of Innovation and Sects, since they do not have any concern for the narrations, and they give precedence to their intellects over the texts from the Book and the Sunnah! Rather, they establish principles that are in opposition to the principles of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah! So these kinds of people are not to be sought excuses for, as that false-claimer (to Salafiyyah) had made excuses for them. And no one includes them in the same row as that of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah except for someone who is ignorant or an arrogant innovator! Another example is:

The Second Example:

You find the person who has repented, in the beginning, enthusiastic and eager to criticize the people of innovation, but without any guidelines or knowledge. So he remains in this state for some period of time. Then he hears the misconceptions from those who claim to be upon Salafiyyah, saying that:

“Criticizing others is not from the way of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah!”

And that “It hardens the hearts!” [3]

And that “So and so person used to criticize the groups (jamaa’aat), but then he reverted (i.e. went back to his old ways) as a result of that!”

So these doubts are not presented to him except that he turns around in his heels, and begins to reject this grand principle (of criticizing), which the Religion is established upon. Rather, perhaps you may even find him, after that, calling the people to abandon this principle, claiming that it hardens the hearts!

The truth with regard to this matter is that Criticizing is a grand principle, which the pure Religion is established upon. It is a strong aspect in safeguarding the methodology of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah from distortions. And it is a magnificent form of worship and a noble way of seeking nearness to Allaah, which causes the Muslim’s Eemaan to increase. However, this is only if it is implemented upon its proper conditions, such as having sincerity (i.e. not doing it except to please Allaah) and other conditions.

So its state is the same as the state of any other act of worship, it increases one’s Eemaan.  So the discrepancies are not in the principle, but rather they are in the person who implements this principle (of criticizing and refuting) without any (proper) guidelines. So when the misconception is met with acceptance in his heart, he finds fault with the principle (of criticizing) instead of finding fault in himself for his lack of applying the principle in a good manner.

This is why we see in the Imaams of guidance – from the Sahaabah, the Taabi’een, and those who followed them in goodness –abstinence (zuhd), dutifulness to Allaah (taqwaa), fear of Him (khashya) and a soft heart along with their excessive criticism and talk concerning individuals and groups.

Look at ‘Abdullaah Ibn Al-Mubaarak and Ahmad bin Hanbal.

And look at Yahyaa bin Ma’een and ‘Alee Ibn Al-Madeenee.

And look at Abu Haatim Ar-Raazee and Al-Bukhaaree.

The biographies of all of these scholars are filled with examples of their piety, fear and dutifulness to Allaah. So this confusion and instability is due to this repentant individual’s lack of sincerity and honesty in repenting to Allaah. And it is due to his lack of giving attention to learning the principles of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah from the beginning.

Because of this, my repentant brother, you must beware of this kind of dangerous trap. And you must know that there is no way for you to be saved from these contagious misconceptions and these destructive traps unless Allaah grants you success (in that) and you begin by (first) learning the Fundamentals of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah. So be firm in this aspect, with earnestness and enthusiasm and strong determination, as Allaah says: “Hold onto that which We have given you with might (i.e. determination).” [Surah Al-Baqarah: 63]

And you must be truthful and have sincerity: “As for those who strive hard with regard to Us (i.e. Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allaah’s Religion). Verily, Allaah is with the good doers.” [Surah Al-‘Ankaboot: 69]

And have certainty in the saying of Allaah: “And if We had ordered them (saying): ‘Kill yourselves (i.e. the innocent ones kill the guilty ones)’ or ‘Leave your homes’, very few of them would have done it. But if they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them, and it would have strengthened their Faith (Eemaan). And indeed We would have then bestowed on them a great reward from Ourselves. And indeed We would have guided them to a Straight Way.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 66]

And beware of losing heart and being weak and of yielding to that which befalls you in the Way of Allaah (i.e. in your path to repentance). Do not forget Allaah’s saying: “But they never lost heart for that which befell them in Allaah’s Way, nor did they weaken or degrade themselves. And Allaah loves the patient ones.” [Surah Aali Imraan: 146]

Footnotes:

[1] Translator’s Note: An example of this point would be the inclusion of the issue of wiping over the socks for ablution. The source for this issue stems from action, yet many of the scholars of the past, including Ahmad bin Hanbal, put it in their books on Creed, since by it they distinguished themselves from the people of desires and innovation, who rejected this aspect of the Sunnah based on it not conforming to their intellects.

[2] Reported by Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim

[3] This is one of their outlandish claims! – Since the hardening of one’s heart can only occur due to opposing the Commandments of Allaah and His Messenger, not by following them. How can the heart of a person who forbids the evil, especially innovations and deviant beliefs, become hardened?

Marriage At An Early Age And It’s Benefits

MATRIMONY AT AN EARLY AGE AND ITS BENEFITS

SHAYKH FOWZAN

Taken from: ISLAAM’S SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEMS FACING TODAY’S YOUTH, Pgs. 44-48

From among the benefits of getting married at an early age is the obtaining of children, which make the youth delighted at their presence.

Allah says:

And those who say: “Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqûn ” (pious – see V.2:2 and the footnote of V.3:164).” (Al-Furqan 25:74)

Wives and children are a deligh; Allah prmised that marriage brings about pleasure. This pleasure encourages and persuades the youth to take an interest in matrimony.

This is also similar to how Allah mentioned that childred are a share of this world’s beauty.

Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds (five compulsory prayers, deeds of Allâh’s obedience, good and nice talk, remembrance of Allâh with glorification, praises and thanks, etc.), that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope. (Al-Kahf 18:46)

Therefore, this world is adorned by children. The human-being seeks out adornment the same ways he tries to obtain wealth. Similarly, he craves for children, because they are equal to wealth in their existence. This is in this world. Then in the hereafter, righteous children can benefit their fathers as the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam said:

Whenever the son of Adam dies his action stop except three: Knowledge that benefits people, a recurring charity, and a righteous child that supplicates for his parent .”

(Hadeeth Saheeh, Collected by Muslim #1631)

The second benefit of matrimony at an early age is that it produces children increasing the Muslim Ummah and Islaamic society. The Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam said

Marry the loving and fertile, for verily I want to have the largest Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.”

[Hadeeth Saheeh, Collected by Abu Dawud in his Sunnan (#2050), An-Nisa’i in his Sunnan As-Sughara (#3227), Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak (#2/162), and Ibn Hibban in his Saheeh (#4057), Al-Baghawee in his Sharh-us-Sunnah (#9/17), Al-Bayhaqee in his Sunnan AL-Kubara (#7/81) on the authority of Ma’qal Ibn Yasaar. Graded Saheeh by Al-Albani in his checking of Abu Dawud.]

Great blessing result from marriage. From among them are the ones we previously mentioned. So if these virtues and blessings are explained to the adolscents, then the fallacious problems that hinder people from getting married will disappear.

As for the saying that, getting married at an early age diverts from gaining knowledge and from studying, this is not the case. Rather, the opposite of this is correct because tranquility, peace of mind, and pleasure never cease to be obtained through marriage. These things help the student to reach his goal because, he has peace of mind, and his thoughts are not cluttered due to discomfort and this helps him study.

Now on the other hand abstaining from marriage in reality blocks whatever knowledge he wants to attain, because it is not possible to acquire knowledge in a state of confusion and anxiety. However, if he gets married, his mind is at rest and his soul is at ease. He gets a house to take as a shelter and a wife who relaxes and helps him. These things help him to attain knowledge.

If Allah makes it easy and this marraige becomes a source of comfot to become a relationship, then this is from among the things which make it easy for the student to pursue knowledge. Matrimony does not block the path to knowledge as some believe. For that reason, having children is an enormous blessing in this life and in the next.

As for the statement that marriage at an early age burdens the adolsecent to supply provisions for his children, wife and other responsibilities, this also is not correct. Along with marriage comes blessings and well-being. Matrimony is obedience to Allah and His Messenger sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam and there is good in every act of obedience. So if the youth gets married following the orders of the Prophet sallalahu ‘alayhe wasallam by seeking the blessings that have been promised with the correct intentions, then this marriage will be a reason for his blessings. The provisions are in the hands of Allah.

Allah, the Mighty and Majestic states:

وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ إِلاَّ عَلَى اللّهِ رِزْقُهَا

And no (moving) living creature is there on earth but its provision is due from Allâh.

(Hud 11:6)

Consequently, if Allah makes it easy for you to get married, then He will make providing for your children easy.

نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُكُمْ وَإِيَّاهُمْ

We provide sustenance for you and for them. (Al-An’am 6:151)

Marriage does not burden the young man above his ability as some of the people think. Marriage brings benefits and blessings. Matrimony is a necessary Sunnah of Allah for the human-being. Matrimony is not a horrible nightmare. It is only a door from the doors of righteousness for the person with the correct intention.

As for the excuses about the obstacles placed in the path of marriage, then this is from their evil behavior. Marriage in itself does not require such things as a plump dowry, parties which amount to more than required or other expenses with no authority from Allah. Rather, what is required is a wedding with ease.

Hence, it is a duty to clarify to the people that these extravagances placed in the path to a wedding bring about evil consequences for their sons and daughters. These extravagances are not from their well-being. Therefore, it is a must to remedy these problems, so that matrimony can return to its ease and convenience.

We ask Allah the Glorious and Most High to grant us the safety of success, guidance and to rectify the condition of all of us. We ask Allah to rectify the Muslim youth and to return the Muslims to their rank and honor the same way Allah gave the Muslim honor before. We ask Allah to return this honor and to rectify the Muslims state.

Allah says the Most High:

وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَكِنَّالْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

But honour, power and glory belong to Allâh, His Messenger (Muhammad Sallalahu ‘Alayhe Wasallam), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not. (Al-Munafiqun 63:8)

We ask Allah to give the Muslims insight in their religion and to protect them from the evil of their enemies. Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet, his family and all his companions. Praise be to Allah.

Terrorist With A Visa

Terrorist with a Visa

Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-`Ubaykaan

Those who travel to and enter non-Muslim lands under a pact of safety (Visas), how could they then prove treacherous and betray it!?

How can a Muslim not realize this?

Do you not see that if a man enters a non-Muslim country and is given a pact of safety (a visa), that this is a betrayal? Every betrayer of a trust will have a banner raised over him on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said: ‘This is the treachery of so and so’ – by name. This would be publicized on the Day of Resurrection, because he is treacherous.

The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلّم) said:

((Do not betray even those who betray you.))

Even the person who betrays you, you mustn’t betray him! But these people, how is it that they enter with a pact of safety (a visa) and then prove treacherous? This is not the way of the believers, nor is treachery a characteristic of the Prophet, may the Salaat and Salaam be upon him, or his companions, and we seek refuge with Allaah from that.
