The High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia announced the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah. The new moon has been sighted.

Dhul-Hijjah has begun (tonight, the night before Wednesday), and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in ‘Arafah next Thursday (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1430), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating ‘Eed al-Adhaa next Friday (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1430), inshaAllaah. [May Allaah keep the hujjaj safe from all evil and return them to their countries.]

The Virtues of the First 10 days of Dhul Hijjah, from a lecture by Shaykh Sa’d ash-Shatree (hafidhahullaah)

From the most virtuous of days are the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah (the 12th month in the lunar calendar, one of the sacred months and the month of Hajj). A group of those from the People of Knowledge say: “Verily they are the best days of the year just as the last ten nights of Ramadaan are the best nights of the year.” Some of the various types of righteous actions which are done in these first ten days are mentioned below:

REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAAH
The first of the righteous actions is the remembrance of Allaah Subhana wa taa’ala. Allaah Subhana wa taa’ala said: …and the men and the women who remember Allaah much with their hearts and tongues – Allaah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise). [al-Ahzaab 33:35]

It is affirmed in a number of texts the encouragement of mentioning the takbeer. Allaah Subhana wa taa’ala said: and mention the Name of Allaah on appointed days (i.e. 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah) [al-Hajj 22:28]

It has been affirmed from the Sahaabah (Companions) of the Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and from him salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, that they increased in the takbeer (saying Allaahu Akbar [Allaah is the Greatest]) in the first ten days of the month of Dhul Hijjah and they raised their voice with it, each one of them saying the takbeer on his own. They raised their voices until the mountains shook from their takbeer, but they did not say the takbeer in unison (in Jamaa’ah). Each of them said the takbeer on his own.

VOLUNTARY ACTS OF WORSHIP
One should implement the voluntary acts of worship – whether prayer, fasting or charity. It is reported in hadeeth that the Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam encouraged fasting the [first nine] days and it is reported that he salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “Whoever fasts the Day of Arafah will have his sins expiated for two years (the past year and the coming year).” [Ibn Maajah]

DO NOT CUT HAIR OR NAILS FOR THE ONE DOING THE SACRIFICE
From what is considered as righteous actions on these ten days is that the one who wants to do the Udhiyyah (sacrificial slaughter) should not cut his hair or nails during these ten days. As such, it is desired that he commits himself before these ten days by cutting his hair and nails. The Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “When any one of you intending to sacrifice the animal enters in the month (of Dhul-Hijjah) he should not get his hair or nails touched (cut).” [Muslim]

SUPPLICATE FOR THE HUJJAAJ
One should make du’aa (supplication) for the hujjaaj (pilgrims who have embarked upon the Hajj) that Allaah Subhana wa taa’ala keeps them safe from all evil and that He returns them to their countries. This is because the hujjaaj are the guests of Ar-Rahmaan, so they have a right upon us that we supplicate for them for ease in their affairs and their safe return.

UDHIYYAH – SACRIFICIAL SLAUGHTER
One should prepare to do the Udhiyyah (sacrificial slaughtering of an animal) and arranging distribution of the meat amongst family, friends, the needy etc. This is from the pious and righteous deeds. Abu Haneefah rahimahullaah was of the opinion that it was from the obligatory acts but most of others say that it is desirable. The Prophet salallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Who does not slaughter should not come to the salaah.” [Ibn Maajah]

ATTEND THE ‘EED SALAAH
From amongst the righteous actions is attending the salaatul ‘Eed, greeting one another, and leaving off fasting on the day of ‘Eed and on the days of Tashreeq (i.e. the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul Hijjah).

Official Decision and Announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia…

Just a short time ago, Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council (HJC) of Saudi Arabia regarding the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah.

The 1st of Dhul-Hijjah 1430 will be tomorrow, Wednesday 18 November 2009, and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in ‘Arafah on Thursday 26 November 2009 (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1430), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating ‘Eed al-Adhaa on Friday 27 November 2009, (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1430), inshaa.-Allaah.

THOSE WHO SAY ‘OUR LORD! AVERT FROM US THE TORMENT OF THE HELL’

“And those who say: ‘O our Lord avert from us the torment of the Hell-fire, indeed its torment adheres and persists’. Evil indeed it (Hell) is an abode and as a place to rest in.” surah-furqaan(25): 65-66.

Shaikh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as Sa’dee said,

“And those who say, ‘O our Lord avert from us the torment of the Hell-fire…”Meaning, avert it from us by safeguarding us from its causes, and by forgiving us whatever we have done which would deserve punishment.

“Its torment clings and persists.” The meaning is that it persists and clings to its people, just as a debt persists and clings to the debtor.

“It is an evil abode and residence.” They say this out of humility to their Lord, to make manifest their extreme need for Him, to acknowledge that it is not within their capacity to bear this torment and in order to remind each other of Allah’s favor upon them. For indeed the averting of a calamity will vary in accordance with its severity and enormity. Thus, the greater it is, the greater will be the impact of its being averted and the greater will be the joy which this produces.

Abdulilah Lahmami said, “Having just spoke to his family, they have informed us that Sheikh Muhammad Abdulwahhab Marzooq al-Banna has just died in his home in Jeddah just before salaatul ‘Asr 24/11/1430 12/11/2009 rahimahullaah rahmatan waasi’ah inshaallaah we will let you know where the janaza will be later.

This is to let you know to attend the janaaza which maybe tonight or tomorrow inashaallaah.

Inna lillaahi wa inna ilaihi raji’oon.”

Ibraheem Ibn Adham was approached by a group of people. They asked him about the Saying of Allaah the Most High:
“Call upon your Lord and He will answer you.” [Ghaafir:60]

They said: “We supplicate to Allaah but He does not respond to (our invocations) .”[1]
Ibraheem Ibn Adham replied:
 

You know Allaah but yet you do not obey Him.

You recite the Quraan but you do not act upon it.
You know about the shaytaan (devil) but you agree with him.
You claim that you love the Messenger of Allaah but you abandon his sunnah.
You claim that you love (to enter) paradise but you do not act for it.
You claim that you fear the hell fire but you fail to abstain from disobedience.
You say that death is truly (approaching) but you do not prepare for it.
You are preoccupied with other people’s faults but you do not analyse your own.
You eat the sustenance that Allaah provides (you with) but you show no thanks.
You bury your dead but you do not contemplate over that.[2]

About the Book:
The book before you is an explanation of a concise yet great work written by a noble Scholar of Islaam from the twelth century of Islaam, known as Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab. He compiled this work, called “The Three Fundamental Principles”, in order to make clear to the people the core and fundamental principles upon which Islaam is established.
Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab took these principles from the texts of Qur’aan and pure Prophetic Sunnah, as well as the Companions and those who succeeded them. This is why in all of the works of the Shaikh, whether small or large, you will find quote after quote from the Religious texts. Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab is a much maligned and misrepresented Scholar. His adversaries, in his time and after expended much effort in spreading misinformation regarding his belief and methodology.
Some ascribe to him extremism; others ascribe to him deviation in belief and creed. All of this are falsehoods easily repelled by the legacy of authorship that he left behind, which clearly show that he was neither an extremist, nor a deviant, rather his works show that he was a true traditionalist in the Path of the Messenger of Allaah and his Companions.

Teaching a Sunnah is more superior than two hundred years of Worship

“I found in the book of the Shaikh, the Imaam, my grandfather, aboo ‘Abdullaah Muhammad ibn ‘Adee Hamdawaih as-Saaboonee (rahimahullaah ta’aala), Abul-’Abbaas, al-Hasan ibn Sufyaan an-Nasawee informed us that al-’Abbaas ibn Sabeeh narrated to them (saying): ‘Abdul-Jabbaar ibn Taahir narrated to us (saying): Ma’mar ibn Raashid narrated to me (saying): I heard Ibn Shihaab az-Zuhree saying, quote: “Teaching a sunnah is more superior than two hundred years of worship.” - Usool-u-Sunnah by Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullaah), Chapter Six: The Distinguishing Signs of Ahlus-Sunnah
